Research Activities2005 to presentFrom Risk to Opportunity: Labour Markets in Transition This project aims to explore new institutional arrangements in the area of social policy to cope with structural change in both labour markets and household formation. The project uses the idea of key labour market transitions both explore to the dynamics of labour markets over the life course for individuals or groups and to envisage new types of institutional arrangements that serve to manage risk and enhance people's capacity for social participation. CPP/Brotherhood of St Laurence Working Papers The Social Policy Working Papers seek to publish interesting findings and insights from recent research undertaken or presented at the Centre for Public Policy, a research and post-graduate teaching centre within the University of Melbourne, and the Brotherhood of St Laurence, a Melbourne-based community organisation whose work includes social policy research and advocacy. 2004 National Clearinghouse Project This Clearinghouse will publish working papers; be used as a point of contract around key policy issues; provide links to other groups working in the field as well as notices of conferences and other relevant information. Joint Submission to the Productivity Commission Review of National Competition Policy Review of National Competition Policy Arrangements The Victorian Council of Social Service (VCOSS), the Brotherhood of St Laurence and the Centre for Public Policy, University of Melbourne (the Submission Partners) have collaborated in making a joint submission to the Productivity Commission's Review of National Competition Policy (NCP) arrangements. 2003 'Much Obliged' - Welfare to Work Report The joint research project, 'Much Obliged', conducted by the Brotherhood of St Laurence, the Centre for Public Policy, University of Melbourne, has found the more barriers to employment a person has, the less helpful they experienced the system to be. 2002 A New Social Settlement: Rethinking Social Policy Across the Life Course This two-year project, aimed to develop a framework for rethinking the future of social policy in Australia, with an emphasis on labour market and household change. The National Consultation Strategy The Consultation Program was established to assist the process of integrating a range of new policy ideas into a coherent framework that responds to the complexity of labour market and household change.
