Presentation Synopsis

'China has the largest population in the world and is transiting from the planned economy to a market-oriented economy. Will the transformation be success? Can China maintain social stability in the future? In order to answer these questions, we should examine its social insurance system. In this presentation, I will discuss the history of the Chinese social security system and its social consequences, discuss the models, drawbacks and dilemmas of current social insurance programs, and how to reform the system and rebuild the incentive structure of social security. The presentation will also examine the main differences between Australian and Chinese social security systems.'
