Joining up services and programs for young homeless jobseekers: a social experiment

Louise Coventry

Manager, YP4

Louise Coventry is a passionate advocate for social justice. She has worked variously in state government, local government, the community-based sector and in self-employment over the last 15 years. Louise has accumulated expertise in social policy analysis, research and management, and she has published several works addressing employment policy, young people, economic development and refugees. Most recently, Louise was Executive Director of Springvale Community Aid and Advice Bureau. Louise is very enthusiastic about her new role as YP4 manager: YP4 is an innovative trial which seeks to demonstrate that joining up services and programs in a client-centred manner will result in more sustainable employment and housing outcomes for young homeless jobseekers.

Reconciling the ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ dimensions of social governance

Tim Reddell

Director, Social Policy, Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Queensland

Tim Reddel has combined work in the public sector with an ongoing interest in academic research and teaching.  He has held senior policy positions in the Queensland public service since 1991, most recently as Director of Social Policy in the Policy Division, Department of the Premier and Cabinet. From 2001 until 2004, Dr Reddel was a research fellow with the School of Social Work and Social Policy, University of Queensland, where he managed the School’s Australian Research Council project on local governance and social inclusion.  In 2004 he was appointed an adjunct research fellow at the Urban Policy Program, Griffith University.  His most recent publication is a co-edited book (with Paul Smyth and Andrew Jones), Community and Local Governance in Australia published by UNSW Press in 2005.

Responding to Complexity: the Multiple and Complex Needs Initiative

Lyndall Grimshaw
Manager, Multiple & Complex Needs Initiative, Department of Human Services

Lyndall has extensive experience as a senior manager with the Department of Human Services and with non-government organisations in the mental health, disability and community health sectors. She worked in the Disability Services Branch for six years in policy and program development as the Manager, Statewide Services (including specialist forensic services), Manager of the  Branch’s Research Unit and Manager, High Complex Needs Unit (statewide system and service planning for complex clients). Prior to this Lyndall held positions as an individual and systemic psychiatric advocate at the Office of the Public Advocate and as the Chief Executive Officer of the Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council, the Outer Eastern Women’s Health Service and the Peninsula Community Health Service. Lyndall most recently worked as a research fellow and project manager at the Australian Institute for Primary Care, La Trobe University prior to returning to the Department in 2003.

Frontyard Youth Services - Reflections on joining up practice

Claire Nyblom
Manager, Youth Homelessness Services, Melbourne Citymission

Claire has worked in the youth field for approximately 15 years. Most of this time has been in the area of homelessness. She has worked for the last 10 years with Melbourne Citymission and has overseen the development of MCM’s youth homelessness services. Claire has a great interest in many areas of social policy and how the various institutions in society work to include their most disadvantaged  citizens. This is reflected in her interest in cross sectoral arrangements at both a ‘systems’ as well as ‘practice’ levels.
